The colour of the t-shirts that were originally issued to soldiers were white, but due to high visibility, in the mid 1940s they were reissued and changed to green. The tee provided soldiers with a comfortable fit in the hot climates with its less structured fit, slightly cropped sleeves, and looser neck band.
